I couldn't remember the game a month back and I forgot to ask about it here. When it was first released I only had my poor Geforce 4 MX 440 so I was unable to actually play it. I'll give it a go now.Last edited by Koroush Ghazi : 07-15-2006 at 03:09 AM. |

I just played that Krieger game. I fail to see how I get 80FPS with my 6600GT. :/ That's some insane optimization there.

I'm almost too embarrased to ask this, but does anyone know of a graphically elaborate version of tetris? TIA.

Just had to Dig this thread up as ive been tying with a few new freeware games lately.
ENDLESS FOREST http://www.tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/ First off its not really an endless forest, its about a 100 sq metre area repeated infinitely. It also calls itself a screensaver which is accurate . . . in a sense. This is a MMO without levels, skills or even verbal communication. Its an MMO in which you play as a deer in a forest with other deer who are also people. You can run and jump, sniff other deer and rub against trees - everything a real life deer would do . If you remember the freeware game mentioned elsewhere called cloud then you will get the idea, this is a game which isnt a game, played by deer with people faces in a MMO which is so laid back its practically horizontal.HALO ZERO http://www.halozero.new.fr/ This is a retro 2d version of the full game. ALTER EGO http://www.theblackforge.net/ A game you play in your browser. What is it? Well its a text based life-simulator in which the tag line is "What if you could live your life over again?" Multiple choice questions lead you through the various stages from birth, really try it. NOT PR0N http://www.deathball.net/notpron/ Everyone should be aware of this puzzle game, if not then your missing out on one of the most rewarding online diversions around. Game rules, There are actually no rules, just proceed to the next screen, until you are on the end screen! The only rule is not to look for walkthroughs on the net. It will ruin the fun for you, and this is what all is about. Don't try to impress others with solutions. It's no challenge to find those on google, everybody can. General hints: -User Internet Explorer, other browsers do not always work (no music eg.). -Always look for all hints you can find, and try to interpret them! -A riddle consists of more than a picture! -Try all to get to the next screen, no matter what. It's NOT a point and click thing! -The url of the next riddle has nothing to do with the current one! -To have Music playing in Firefox, install this extension . -Everytime you need Google, there is a build in search bar on the riddle page. No need on any others. About passworded Stuff: - no spaces - no capital letters and no spaces - You won't see the password written in an obvious way - You'll always get username and password at the same time or in the same way (except Level 13)

I decided to start this thread since I haven’t seen anything like it here. Well, ok there was one but I think it was buried and forgotten. Anyways, I have played MANY freeware games over the years. Some are real stinkers; others are just average, and a scant few are real gems that you won't find anywhere else’s.
That's what I'm here to do is provide a list to some of the best freeware games I have ever played. Of course I encourage others to list any freeware games you find that you think is good enough to mention here. If possible don't forget to provide the site or download links. First of all, the site that helped me find most of these games: GameHippo: http://www.gamehippo.com/ - One of the best places to find nothing but freeware games. What great about this site is that they do reviews of each game they list. This is nice if you want to know what you’re getting into before you click that download link. Now for the games them selves divided by genre's: ARCADE: Crush! http://coolmoose.net/v4/ (The site link doesn’t seem to be working right now, so try downloading from gamehippo instead.) - A real classic, this one has you controlling a large godzilla "like" creature for the sole purpose of the destroying the city laid before you. Why? I don't know, to score points I guess. This ones just a fun diversion to keep you busy while you wait for that precious download to finish. Porassurvat http://jet.ro/dismount/ - You must be thinking how do I pronounce that? Don't ask me I don't know, but the games fun and unique to boot. You see, you push some stick figure dude down a flight of stairs, with some cool looking rag doll physics to seal the deal. All for the purpose of scoring some points for this heinous act of violence. What can I say; it's fun to be bad. PLATFORM: Cave Story http://www.gameflaws.com/cavestory/ - What can I say this game, it's a masterpiece. The author of this one spent 5 years working on it. All you need to know is if you've ever played a game made by Treasure. (Silhouette Mirage or Gunstar Heroes to name a couple) Then you'll love this one. Don’t forget the english patch. Jumper 2 http://www.helixgamesinc.com/ - The first ones good but the sequels much better. Talk about polish, over fifty levels, tons of unlockables, and an extreme (but fun) challenge. This ones a keeper. Till the third one comes out anyways. N http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/n.html - If you liked Jumper 2, then you'll love this one. N's longer, about 500 levels not counting user created ones. N's more challenging, you'll die like alot. N it's got rag doll physics! True rag dolls are nothing new to 3d games, but in a 2d game (a Flash made one no less) now that’s cool. Plus you get to play a slick looking ninja, who doesn’t like to play a slick looking ninja? ROUGELIKE: - Ah Rouge, now that brings back memories. The precursor to the hack n' slash RPG genre, AKA Diablo. Now there are tons of these types of games out there and I can't name all the good ones, so I'll just stick to the few that I think are the best. ADOM http://www.adom.de/ - If you can stand ascii characters used for the graphics, then you'll like this one. Over 200 character class/races combinations, over 400 monsters, and hundreds of randomized dungeon levels to explore. What more could you want, so get looting! DoomRL http://doom.chaosforge.org/ - That’s right, Doom. A Doom RPG. Do I need to say it again! It's Doom, so download now! Finally a Doom RPG done right (unlike a certain mod for a certain doom 3 game), best of all it's free. IVAN http://ivan.sourceforge.net/ - IVAN sounds dumb for a game, I know. It's really just an acronym for Iter Vehemens ad Necem which means a violent road to death. A fitting name for this game, you'll spend a lot of time in this game dying in very graphic and gruesome ways. Even though this game is HARD (and fun), there's just something about it that keeps you coming back for more. Maybe it's just to see how you'll die this time. SIMULATION: Noctis IV http://anywherebb.com/postline/index...v1flhhT4s6Spx5 - 70 billion solar systems, and within each one you can visit every single moon and planet there. You can even land on them for a bit of exploring, which can take you days alone or even months with just one solar system. This game has no goal, other than to explore this vast galaxy and perhaps name a planet or two after your pets. Even though it was made for DOS, it will play in Win XP just fine. PUZZLE: Laser Tank http://www.jccontrols.net/laser/ - You play a tank that’s shoots a laser, and your goal is to reach the white flag at the end. Sounds simple, right? Wrong, this game is for the hardcore puzzle players that like to flex those brain muscles now and again. Hey, we gamers need to use our brains too once in awhile. If you liked anything like Chips Challenge (an oldie, but a goodie), then you might as well give this one a whirl. Besides 2,030 levels should keep you busy for a awhile. Enigma http://www.nongnu.org/enigma/ - This ones cool. You control a steel looking ball with the mouse (with nice physics by the way) and guide it to the levels end. But there are tons of obstacles in your way, and it takes only but the steadiest of hands to make it through. Tense at times, but fun a tense. Bowler Bob http://www.jawiniarski.com/free_game...wler_front.htm - Ok I’ll admit, this is a game I made. Still not finished though, just got levels to add now. It’s free, so why not place it here. Use the email provided on its page to tell me what you think. Don’t post feedback here on the thread though; this is for freeware game discussion. Oh yah I almost forgot, you play a bowling bowl and must make it to the levels end by knocking down all the pins along the way. Doesn’t sound like much, but many people find it fun so far. These are but a few of many excellent freeware games out there. These are just the ones that have found a happy place on my hard drive for a long time to come. I hope to hear from others that know of any freeware games worth pointing out. If you do, then feel free to start posting. Remember everyone likes a freebie, especially when It’s a goodie.

Armagetron Advanced (previously Armagetron)
http://armagetronad.net/ - Remember how cool the light cycles were in Tron? Well somebody took the idea and turned it into a free 3D game, with a good deal of customization available to boot. Future versions plan to include arenas more complex than a box (like a star or a cross), and turns at variable degrees (rather than just 90).
