Yes, it has been posted before, please make sure to use the thread search function before posting.
Elite Bastards have done an examination of the 169.04 Forceware in Crysis and note that at least one of the optimizations results in a visual glitch for shadows on water. The site is hard to reach due to traffic - again anything with the word Crysis in it seems to be snowed under by people trying to find how to get more FPS - but basically they renamed the Crysis executable to disable the optimization, and FPS fell by around 5-10%. I don't see it as a big issue, since it looks more to be an unintentional glitch than a deliberate ploy, but hopefully Nvidia will fix this is in another driver release.

I'm curious that you guys aren't talking about the DX10 hack being used to allow the features reserved for Vista to be used in XP.
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...2209704,00.asp I suppose that still doesn't show the DX10 value, which handles the information better, thus not giving the end user the real benefits of DX10, just the eye candy.

It's not really a DX10 hack as you can just swap the names of the DX9 and DX10 DLL files in the Crysis folder and after starting the game you can select these settings albeit it's still DX9
(As such it's just restricted for some reason, could probably be modified by playing around with the .Pak files albeit I haven't done much with those myself but the files aren't that hard to edit.) There's nothing in those settings that are DX10 specific either, it's just a bunch of values providing somewhat better visuals and as proven it works fine in XP with powerful hardware such as the 8xxx or 2xxx cards from either NVIDIA or ATI so why Crytec disabled or restricted them is unclear, perhaps just to give Vista/DX10 users some exclusive bonus or something or perhaps the game would be faster with DX10/VeryHigh settings. (Albeit all tests I've read seems to show DX9/VH/XP being faster than DX10/DX9/VH/Vista.) There are differences though especially in how shaders are handled just check the Gamespot comparison pictures I linked to on the previous page and it should be clear that especially the shadows appear much darker and "richer" than in DX9. ![]() I guess Koroush will cover this better in the guide when it's released in a few days or so. (Along with all the other settings and the usual comparisons, should help quite a bit as the game has a ton of settings and not all of them are adjusted when changing the game options such as "e_watershadows 0/1" - Albeit I'm unsure what that one does as I can't see any differences and it's defaulted to "0" even on the "Very High" settings but perhaps that's related to the 169.04 issue above.) Anyway it will be a very interesting read it when it's available. (And after that things get really hectic with the full versions of Crysis, UT3/GoW, CoD 4 and perhaps others are released nearly simultaneously. )

On the topic of the guide, I've now finished testing the cvars, and the final version will likely be out within 48 hours, though of course I still have a lot of editing, formatting, cross-referencing, checking etc. to do, so it may take a bit longer if I get bogged down in that.

No one can pressure you to go any faster; don't worry! We're all grateful for the effort you put into each one of the guides, your turnaround times are spectacular, and we're more that willing to stand delays for perfection. Take your time!

It seems it may even be out before the full version of the game, so I'm no too worried. Even if it's late, it'll be an awesome guide for free. Can't beat that.
..well, maybe if the game came out early,, i guess that'd be neat. Maybe go grab COD4 to pass these next 11 days. Catnap/coma, anyone? EDIT OKay I"ve mustered the energy to type. Anyway, here http://www.gamersglobal.com/news/253 is a bunch of links to some neato mods and content unlocks. Fun fun. |

First review of the full game (that I've seen) is now about - PCZone UK gave it 92%. Unfortunately, after reading the review I feel a little disappointed, even with the high score - sounds like the last third of the game is not quite as good as the first part and the review left me on a bit of a down note.
PCZone gave the game eight pages - the largest review I think I have ever seen. I really hate it though when they fill their review pages with concept art instead though - if they want to use a whole page to show a picture I would rather it be a screenshot. I'm still having immense fun with the demo though so as long as there are a good few levels in that style I won't be complaining too much. |

if the ending isn't as bad as Far Cry then I'm happy.

Yes, I'm sure every bit of the story will be better than Far Cry's. I'm very interested in the rest of the game now, the demo really ended with a bang, but I'm not going to edit the demo to see how it continues at least for another while.
I also found some nice links to some graphics comparisons. This one indicated the demo still does not have all graphics functionality. Perhaps this is one of the features not enabled until hardware chatches up? The nvNews discussion also has some good finds and explanations etc mainly graphics related (how could it be any different). The last 7 pages are quite interesting. I also found an AA comparison somewhere, but I can't find it anymore. It showed that edgeAA blurred a little and made things look 'fat', but it was disabled as soon as any real FSAA was enabled. Performance hit was minor though and with all the subtle motion blur going on in the game, it is hardly noticeable.

I've finally finished and posted up the Crysis Tweak Guide so have a read when you get the chance. It took me a lot of work, but it's definitely not perfect and I'm sure there are still more tweaks and tips to be discovered so it's just the beginning. Still, I'm quite happy with it
