Crytek say that comparing the engine of Crysis and Far Cry is a 3 generation gap, yet Crysis in DX9 to Crysis in DX10 will be only a 1 generation gap. Fairly vague language admittedly, but it certainly doesnt point to the 6x speed boost that Microsoft claim is possible.
Sub-surface scattering is a new tech that helps make the quality of the skin surpass all previous attempts, in addition to the mentioned wizardry. There is an article here that raises some interesting points about photorealistic faces in computer games. I wonder how well Crytek will have them animated and alive looking. Those are jaw-dropping graphics; however, graphics alone won't cut the cake if the gameplay isn't good.
I personally did not enjoy Farcry's gameplay style. I hope they improve upon it. |

I remember when the first farcry demo was available it had incredible graphics for that time, and still, if you had a good pc it ran really well. I think the guys of crytek really know how to code stuff, so I'm pretty certain that Crysis will run surprisingly good once it come out.
Next generation graphics doesn't necesarly mean it will run like crap ![]() Still I think we'll have to wait at lest 1+ years before seeing some real DX10 stuff. |

Yeah I'm kinda surprised myself. I thought I would love the game but it just didn't click for me. I got bored really fast. It was too simple of a game.
You had 4 or 5 slots and you could fit in whatever weapons you wanted in those slots, run around, shoot and kill. It seemed totally pointless to me :/ It didn't have ANYTHING special about it (besides amazing graphics) to keep me wanting to come back and play more. I got no sense of accomplishment through killing the bad guys or sneaking around. It was all so base, boring, and linear to me. |

We're so damn close... The next gen is probably going to hit the mark of CGI. Unreal 4.0... DX11 & PS4 & XBOX3 ... Just imagine.
I'm looking too far ahead aren't I? ![]()

Not to be a drag... but the faces look superb, on par or better than Unreal 2007... but the environments honestly look... sub-par... At least when comparing to things like Oblivion. I hope this is either just because it's not done, or because the screenshots are bad?

Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder, but how you can compare the wonderous visage of pea soup to this crysis footage is beyond my imagining.

I think oblivion graphics look more animated and shiny almost like the way reality "should" look like but Crysis graphics look more like what I would see if I went to some tropical rainforest (based on pictures I saw). They look more real and life-like.
But there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that in terms of human faces, Crysis wins by a landslide. |
