That's correct. Any Xbox 360 controller comes with the USB adapter connected right at the end, you just plug it in and install the official drivers.
However, the official drivers suck in terms of customization options etc. Therefore, I recommend this guide if you want to get the modded drivers along with the XBCD tweaking program to adjust button functions, deadzone range, and other useful adjustments. http://xbcd360guide.50webs.com/guide.html

![]() Also, I'm running it at 1280x960 with 8xS AA and 16x AF, so make sure to turn on some AA to get rid of jaggies.

Which is better to use opengl or direct3d, they both look about the same. Direct3d mode tends to drop in fps time to time also, where as opengl is constantly at 99 fps. I run the game at 1600 by 1024 all features on.

It would seem that this game is programmed primarily in Opengl, and with respect to all the "after" additions, DirectX support is legacy, not very good, and very often has issues.
I'm in the process of downloading it. All this talk has gotten me interested, I did the Darkstar One demo and it gave me a taste for space sims again. But there is a heck of alot of stuff to do to get it up and running, and I'm not exactly sure what things I must do, and what my Graphics card can support. Supposedly with all the bells and whistles, this game can require a high end system. While no slouch, my 6600GT has been getting increasingly further from "high end" The last sim I played was Battlecruiser. Hopefully I'l have better luck with this one. How would anyone rate/relate Freelancer 2 to X2/X3? Aggies |

Im really impressed with the graphical mods they add to the game, its really drawn my interest in playing freespace 1 and 2 again. They did a great job on a 7 year old graphics engine

Run in OpenGL mode, DX isn't exactly supported and runs shoddily.
Next, I'd say a 6600GT can handle the game fine with everything maxed at 1280x960 and 2x AA with 8x AF. Don't worry too much, the game is amazingly smooth.

Ok, so I gave this one a go, downloaded the crazypack torrent, Installed Shivan 1.9a, copied over the adv_effects files so that I assume they are enabled.
I have to say I am really enjoying myself. The game is not an open ended space sim as I thought, but a Linear Space shooter (You are a Pilot in the Galactic Forces fighting in a war). I am only a few missions in though, so I could obviously be missing out, but as far as the campaign goes, I am loving it. Very exciting, good action. There are absolutely a TON of controls to set up. I am pretty much overwhelmed. I'm still trying to figure out what option's I'd actually use/are usefull, and how/where to set them up on my Cyborg Evo and keyboard. I'm sure I totally suck as a pilot, but it is very fun. Sound is good, graphics look nice, not mindblowing, but also not dated. Flying off in formation with your squadron going into battle is pretty epic. I'm definitely gonna keep at this one. As a side note: anyone know if there is any sort of vertical/horizontal thrusters on the ship(s)? Basically anything that allows for reverse and/or non-forward movement. I see some keybindings for commands that would seem to indicate they do this, but haven't had any success getting them to work. Right now, my ships fly just like airplanes, ie. they only go forward. It's not a big issue or anything, I was just curious. Good call on the Post "Know Your Enemy", I'm really enjoying it ![]() Aggies |
