It makes sense that BF2142PACE is a process for the downloadable version, since clearly they can't incorporate a disc detection copy protection system for that version, so they're using another form of copy protection.

The regular DVD version of the game just comes with a normal process called BF2142.exe.

I'm kinda disappointed that the developers decided that the SB Live! 24-bit sound card would not be supported in 2142. While the game will play with it, about half of the game voices get all choppy. Which I suppose can be lived with, the rest of the sounds are great, but I wish they would have fully supported this one. It's not exactly old...

Well I have just bought this game, New Years Day cheap as I was only good to play some games really

All seems to be running not to bad and quite impressed but not massively. Same but different as BF2 which I do like. Nice look and like the custom soldier type thingy. Really like the land walkers and the feel when driving (if thats how you refer to it), feels very Star Wars as in the films never played the games.

Will be applying all the tweaks from the guide tonight as had a bit of lag/steps but doesnt seem to run to bad running straight out of box which is always a relief.

Didnt have any probs creating a account/recruit this time which was a total pain in the butt with BF2 and the only prob I had with setting up and running that!

All in all not bad but do feel it needs to move forward/develop a bit more rather than 'ohhhh we have a good seller here lets just create new vehicles etc and sell that'. But who knows whats round the corner!

Cheers

That's pretty much how I feel about BF2142. To me it basically just feels and looks like a mod that costs $50. EA said they were gonna add new game modes to BF2...did they? No (the no vehicles thing dosen't count IMO). With 2142 out, I think EA will leave BF2 in the dust (BF:V anyone?(even though it seems more people still play BF2 rather than BF2142)) It was too soon to release this game, the graphics and physics engine look almost exactly the same a BF2's and yet I can barely run the game on medium settings (20 FPS). Also, it still seems to be the RAM hog BF2 still is. It should have just been an expansion or something, not a $50 mod. That's how I feel about BF2142 and the only way it's getting on my PC is if I don't pay for it (ie a gift or some promotional give away or something of the like).

Yeah this is what I thought when everywhere had it at £30-£35.
But then yesterday I saw it at just under £19 and thought yeah I'll part with that and overall I think I am glad I did but its only a few hours in yet so......

Default Memory Sanity Error

We have two separate PC’s here both trying to run BF 2142 and both receiving the same “sanity” error message when trying to optimise shaders. We have two copies of the software and before version 1.05 upwards have had no issues running the game. All drivers, os etc are up to date and I have tried everything including numerous re-installs of both the game and os plus all the tweaks listed in the guide. Page files have been manually set and left to Windows to sort with the same results for both.

Specs as follows

1 - AMD 64 3500
nVidia 7600GS (AGP)
1Gb 400mhz Ram (PNY branded)
nForce 3 chipset

2 - AMD 4400 Twin Core
nVidia 7800GT in Sli
2Gb RAM (Corsair)
nForce 4 Sli

I am beginning to wonder if it is down to the nForce chipset(s) and/or the drivers (both PC’s latest nvidia). Any help/suggestions/pointers would be appreciated.

Regards

Have you run any memory stress tests for a period of time to check your general memory stability? Check the benchmarking and stress testing chapters of the TGTC. Try for at least an hour of testing with some of the memory testers.

Make sure to remove any overclocking on any component. Make sure the systems are both getting a large amount of adequate air flow into the cases, if necessary remove the sides of the cases.

The memory error is directly related to a memory-subset problem, I don't think it has anything to do with the NForce3 or NForce4 drivers as I and many others are running these chipsets without these errors, so it's likely a system-specific issue.

Thanks for the quick reply, I am personally rapidly running out of ideas - I have stressed tested both systems with no problems on either, I fear that it might be something I have done when initially setting up the systems.

I don't overclock anything and both are well cooled so after wrestling with this since version 1.05 (earlier versions worked fine - Dice must have changed something in subsequent patches) and fear I'm about to give up.

No other game has given me any issues at all, they install run and continue to work and this includes Oblivion, COH, COD 2 and most of the "big" current titles, just BF2142 and on two machines as well. This last year has been the first in 20 years (yes I am that old!) of PC gaming that, apart from BF2142, I have had no problem with any of the games I have bought, gaming comes of age!

I'll try an older machine tonight with a VIA chipset as a point of reference and let you know.

In desparation I downloaded Americas Army and actually think its a far superior game dont'tknow why I didn't do it before - every cloud has a silver lining so thank you Dice!

Regards

Don't mean to side-track the person above me's problem.

That's still about $40 here (wow, games are expensive in England), still too much for the game IMO

Moderator Edit:
This is an unnecessary post. If you have nothing to contribute or do not want to sidetrack a problem simply do not post.

Please reserve this thread for BF2142 discussion only. Any further non-BF2142 posts relating to game pricing will be deleted. I haved moved the extra posts into the thread linked below.

Is this game really worth it? The reason I ask is because it seems to have a number of problems, new patches are often, still a pricy game, seems to require a pretty hefty system, not everyone has 2.0gig of system ram, I can think of many more reasons not to buy this game but I do like the battlefield series. What to do
