My CPU is currently...
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3700+ (san diego), ~2.2GHz All overclocking has been off since I formatted (yesterday) just to reduce some factors but to no avail ![]() I'm just confused as to why it only happens while standing still or strafing. |

Unfortunately from what I can see in that video you posted, there's no clear solution to the problem. It could be related to IRQs, it could be related to the Mouse, it could be anything else. Since you suspect the mouse, try using a standard PS2 mouse to see if it makes a difference. Also check your IRQs as per the BIOS Optimization chapter of the TweakGuides Tweaking Companion.

Since it appears that the stuttering and lag issues in-game have been brought on by the 1.06 patch, is there any reason (besides a lack of ranked servers) to not uninstall 1.06 and only use the 1.01 patch temporarily?? I think this might be the best option for the time being until EA/DICE can come out out with another fix...
Again, I was not experiencing any of this in-game stuttering and/or lag with the 1.01 patch when I first installed BF 2142. Curiously, I have been getting in-game stuttering and choppiness while playing single player maps as well! Game play in SP mode will be smooth for a while and then the game begins getting choppy and stutters. At that point logging out of the game and back in usually stops the problem for a bit of time. That I cannot explain.

I was curious as to what size servers most of you play in? I have been struggling to get this game to run decent. I was forced to disable anti alaising and low my resolution from 1680x1050 my native to 1280x800 , another 16:10 resolution. I am running textures and terrain high with 8x af no aa and the rest of the settings on low. This nets quite good fps on 12v12 servers or less. The second i move into 24 players + i find the frame rate goes down the drain. I was just wondering if anyone else notices this or if they find it perform bad in larger servers as well. Thing is with bf2 i could run 32 player all high on my native resolution without aa at 60fps < no problem and even when it dipped in intense scences it will felt way smoother than 2142.
My definition of playable in this game is 60 < and no less than 45. I find anything less than 60 in the bf2142 engine to feel really really bad. I don't know if this is because they handle the lighting different ( im not even running with shadows , lighting or enhanced lighting on period ) Oddly i was playing many other games on my previous computer at 20-40 fps without a problem. I think this is in part to do with the games horrible netcode. Ill be able to compare things next week on a core 2 because im partially guessing a fastert cpu will net better performance in larger player counts. Not that its a concern as i generally won't play any game more than 16v16 if not 12v12. I find larger servers are random free for alls and its really not enjoyable. Its much easier to work as a team with 12 people and much more fun for me. I have really been annoyed at how alot of reviewers bench this game. They run bf2142 usally on a single player map which is no where near the demand a larger server will require. People will bunch up online and rush flags, players etc which the bots never do so theres always more on screen online. Sure your cpu has the run the ai but i find a online game to run 25-50% slower than single player. It would be nice if they could actually run benchmarks at the larger player counts. Yes its hard to replicate results with this particular engine but it would provide a worse case scenarios which is what i personally want to know. I don't care if a game runs at 300fps if theres no one playing in the server If a 8800gtx can pull off the game with 4x aa on 48 players ill be very impressed but something tells me that will a little tough as applying 4x on 48 character models as well as the model around the map and alpha textures is really hard on a video card. Only time will tell i guess.

After watching Koroush's video, it is confirmed that most people are experiencing the same thing. I have experienced this repetive, rewinding, warping-like lag, which mostly manifests itself (for me) when I am trying zoom in using right click, and immediately the view will return to normal. This is, of course, in addition to HORRIBLE lag, where enemies are warping around, not to mention myself. Sometimes I keep ATI Tray Tools running so I can monitor the framerate without having to type the console command, and I have gotten as low as 2 FPS in certain occasions, but this is only on the titan mode. I can run conquest maps with 64 people at 60-85 FPS all day long. I have a 4600 kb/s up, 500 kb/s down cable broadband connection through Suddenlink (formerly Cox). I have my video settings on everything high, except dynamic shadows, which is off. I also have enhanced lighting effects on, as well as 6x AA forced (game won't apply 6x, even on restart, only 4x), and high quality AF. I really can't wait until the next patch, but then again the last two patches only made matters worse.......maybe they SHOULD focus on new maps too, becuase they sure aren't fixing anything.

I don’t think a patch will resolve your current problems. The reason is simply because I am running the game perfectly fine. And then it can’t be something wrong with the program code (that might not be entirely true since it may have different effect on different hardware, but I still suspect other servers to be prime suspects). Only very rare I got this “lost connection” problem that last for a couple of seconds before I can play smoothly again. I would say that playing for one hour will give me one “lost connection” on average. And that is not a big deal honestly. Warping and other lag problems are even rarer. But as I mentioned in another post; why not try to enable mouse smoothing. Has anyone else tried it? I find it strange that I didn’t get any response on that issue since it works like a dream for me.
I play with everything at high at 1680*1050 and 16 AF + 4 AA at 60 – 80 fps. *************** My specs: Athlon 64 Fx 62 (2x 3,0 Ghz), 2 gig ram (900 Mhz), Geforce 7950 GX2, X-Fi Elite Pro. |

No, you're not the only one - as I've mentioned I'm running the game very smoothly in terms of system performance. I don't have any FPS problems.
The issue with disconnections and packet loss/jerkyness/lag is to do with the netcode, and it depends on where you are and what servers you're playing on to some extent. I posted video evidence of this a page or two back. But a lot of people are complaining about disconnections and jerkyness and EA Games have admitted this is a problem that they are working on, and that the disconnections are real, so it's not a system-specific problem. Also, why should we get any lost connections, even one per hour? Most every other online game I play does not disconnect on me while I'm playing, remember that this game is based on the BF2 netcode which has been around for 2 years, I find it extremely poor that they cannot resolve this issue after that long. Last night at the tail end of an amazing round about 2 minutes before match end I got disconnected - very, very frustrating.

Thanks for that, let's hope it does resolve some outstanding issues with the game.
Also despite my complaints, I think people should realise I actually have grown to like the game in terms of its gameplay. I've racked up close to 9000 points and unlocked every Engineer unlock, I actually play quite well and am reasonably successful (modesty aside), so it's not sour grapes on my part. The game balance in BF2142 appears much more solid compared to BF2 in my opinion, since the anti-vehicle weapons are actually very useful. For example I often use a shoulder-mounted anti-aircraft weapon unlock which means the gunships and transports can't just dominate the game, going from spawn to spawn capping things with ease. I also use the floating mines which prevent ground vehicles from dominating. And the spawn beacons and field upgrades also allow for a variety of strategy in the game, so it doesn't just become rock, paper, scissor as to what beats what. No one class or one weapon or one vehicle appears dominant in the game. But that's precisely what makes these issues more frustrating, because the game is good but is being held back by the glitches and lag/packet loss issues. It's very disheartening to play 70% of a game smoothly and then suddenly everyone starts complaining about lag and warping. I make sure to check with others on the server when I'm experiencing these issues and almost always there are many responses indicating others have the same problem at the same time, so it's not my system or just my internet connection which is at fault.
