Chickenfeed, what was the issue? You neglected to mention, I think.

Crimson Might - Yes, Titan mode may well have slightly lower FPS, but note that I'm running the game at 1280x1024 with all settings max, 2xAA. I see similar FPS in both Titan and Conquest mode, and I have already tested the FPS differences by changing various settings when I was compiling the guide. Lowering settings does improve FPS, though it may not be dramatic on some systems (as a high resolution for example already is a big FPS drain).
If you want to post screenshot comparisons to demonstrate your problem, please do so. And again, I note in your tone you're taking this personally. I do not want this to turn into a personal competition or argument; that is not how this forum works, and any personal insults or undertones will simply see posts removed. Chickenfeed - your issue does sound very odd. It sounds like a memory leak in the game, but I haven't experienced anything like it so far myself. You've tried all the common things which would be advisable, so it could be a bug in the game itself on certain configurations. Just as another thing to try, try setting your pagefile to 0 and back again to its previous size to clear any pagefile corruption. Also try checking the amount of memory used by the game's process in Task Manager when it starts to slow down and report back on this.

I still have the purchase of BF2142 on the backburner. I am convinced that the gameplay is acceptable, but I am very weary of the in-game advertising. Can someone post a variety of advertisement screenshots as soon as the ad servers are up and running?
I just can't find it in myself to buy the game until I see what the advertisements look like. And even if they aren't too distracting, it is still a hard decision for me to make because like Koroush, I see where this is all heading in the future if we (the consumers) give in and buy games which contain things we find intrusive or unjustified. I really believe something must be done about it now in the early stages. I mean, I understand software companies ultimately have the choice to do as they please and we are left with the choice of buying the software or not. But what is it going to take for the majority to take a stand? because it only gets worse from here. To me, what makes a game of great quality is one that takes you away from your everyday thought and life and drowns your mind with content and gameplay. These are also known as the games that make you loose your concept of time while you play for hours on end. We already have a life full of ads left and right, let gaming be without it as it ruins the whole thought of playing a "game". Who would have thought that gaming was the next area we would be emersed in advertisement? I say all and all, we can't look at it as just a battle for an ad-free BF2142.

I am not taking this personally. I have other things I need to take personally that I don’t bother taking personally. However, I think you are just dismissing my view on this without deliberation on whether or not it’s a valid idea.
I am going to leave these two screens up until tomorrow night. This thread gets viewed a million times per day and I don’t envy the fact that if I leave them up Godaddy will send a hit man to break my legs in a week. LOL, no I just used up a ton of bandwidth this last week so… http://www.rogueclan.com/Crimson/screen000.png http://www.rogueclan.com/Crimson/screen001.png
I am not going to bother trying to show the difference between Titan and Conquest. I just don’t have the time in between ranks and work. Although, I must give the creators of this game recognition for an easy to use screenshot utility. It also puts it in a format you don’t have to have a third party program to view. Additional Comment: Quote:
Have you ever played Anarchy Online? It’s a free MMORPG. If you would like to get a feel for how the advertisements will be setup check out that game. I played that game for about two years back in the day when it was p2p and the advertisements didn’t stand out in game and soon after their release I never noticed them. I don’t think we will really have to worry about them because when you are being chased at 50 mph in a buggy trying to out run a chopper you aren’t going to be thinking about advertisements. ![]()

Crimson might - you were warned not to insert personal commentary in your post, clearly you haven't understood it, so an infraction has been given. Please feel free to stop posting here if it is too difficult for you to discuss things rationally without getting personal - no further warning will be given.
Your screenshots appear to show that you have similar FPS at high and low while standing on the deck of a Titan, but this is in part because you are using a high resolution, and keeping in mind that on the deck of the Titan itself, there are few variables which can be affected by the graphics settings. That is, most of the settings in the game affect FPS when there are distant objects and landscape geometry involved, none of which are visible in your two screenshots. Even altering the textures by itself is not primarily for FPS boosts, it's to improve smoothness, which is obviously not going to be visible from screenshots. Try changing your settings when viewing terrain at ground level and you may notice more of a difference, but then again the issue is that at high resolution in large part your graphics card comes into play as a bit of a bottleneck (whereas at low resolutions, CPU is more likely to bottleneck). As for the issue of ads, logic would dictate that there is no point in advertisers placing ads which are ignored. The game software specifically measures the attention paid to ads and it is quite likely that advertisers will pressure EA to make the ads more prominent (e.g. flashing ads, attention-grabbing colors etc.). Their location in BF2142 is also quite prominent, but not clearly visible at the moment since they are no attention grabbing ads being used as yet - we will have to see how it goes. Note also that Anarchy Online is as you say a free MMORPG - hence the ads are serving both the consumer and the games company, not just the games company as in this case.

As for the second part of this quote, it is something to worry about because if we have to deal with it in newer EA titles, what will be next? And also because if we don't pay attention to them then they will do what it takes to make us pay attention to them, otherwise the ads are pointless. It has been made clear that they will be monitoring our in-game behavior with the billboards (viewing time, distance, angle of view, etc.) for a reason. EDIT--Sorry Koro, all this above was typed slower than the time it took you to read my mind and post essentially the same thing in different words. ![]()

Note that Crimson_might just got banned for removing an admin edit I made removing his personal comment. The comment was something along the lines of asking me what my in-game name was so he could knife me over and over. I removed the comment with an admin edit. He then went into the post and removed my admin edit, which is almost always a bannable offense.
Let me make it clear to anyone else reading this that this forum is NOT for people who want to behave like other forums, with personal insults (whether implied or explicit), blanket statements without any evidence, and making a pain of themselves with the admin/mods here. You are welcome to disagree with me or anyone else as long as it is done politely, logically and with the intent on finding solutions, not one-upping someone else. If you have attitude problems then there are many other forums you can post on, not this one.

Its interesting you mentioned the pagefile Koroush. Since installing the game i had twice ecountered a memory related error. The game would get around 50% through loading ( optimizing shaders) then the walker icon would switch to the hour glass and id hear a windows alert sound. I alt tabed to find a window saying (dont 100% recall exactly what it said but something along the lines of this )
memory error memory.ddl sanity check. (message quotes some 3000mb of memory ) doesnt seem sane. Then it said cancle, tryagain and continue. I then have to close the process. I had done what you tryed with reseting the page file and it appears to have done the trick. Ive heard of page file related issues before but never ecountered one up until now. As for memory usage , the commit charge was around 900mb and pf usage around 800-900mb. I noticed making a new pagefile moved its position on my hard drives ( previously the unmoveable file cluster was contained in between all the other files; apon reseting it , its now in the middle of the drives , away from the other files ) Picture example here : http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/8...catiojnqd6.jpg I had only played for 15 minutes so ill have to do a longer session to be 100% sure but it appears to be gone. Thanks for the tip. Chickenfeed

The new pagefile location shouldn't be a big issue as such and I don't feel it necessarily did anything for the problem. However the reason a pagefile reset works to resolve game errors/problems is that sometimes the information held in the pagefile becomes corrupted (e.g. through overclocking, a bad shutdown, etc.). Then when you play a game or use an app, some of this information will persist and load up. Resetting the pagefile simply clears all the info held there, and you start afresh.
Battlefield 2142, like BF2, is a real memory hog. That's why most people need 2GB of RAM to get it to run smoothly. However it is also quite sensitive to memory-related issues on systems, which is also why it often crashes to desktop for some people, and also why you can't ALT-TAB during the game (as this screws up Windows Memory management). Most people experiencing crashes in this game should focus on the entire range of memory-related issues and the Memory, Startup Programs, Services and Drive Optimization chapters of the TGTC as well as Benchmarking & Stress Testing chapters. Of course they should also back off overclocking almost totally if they want stability too. In my experience the game has not crashed once for me, neither the demo nor the full version, so it is possible to get it to be stable in that respect, it just takes some work.

Lately i've been playing around alot with different versions of ati tool although they've been give nothing but problems.( clocks would switch but no at the write speeds ( instead of 625 , core would run at 399 )The reason i like ati tool though is the simplicity. I much sooner have 1 process running at startup for my video card as opposed to 5 ( all of atis processes require if you use overdrive ) Having the fan at 100% and temp logging is also a plus. Going back and forward with these and defragging frequently most likely caused hell with the pagefile ( i was trying to get my windows start up time down )
Anyways like you said memory related issues are over looked more than i thought. Ill look through the memory sections in your guide once more to refresh myself. You had previously mentioned you were running the game on all high options. Do the higher lighting options amount to any significant longer loading periods (on your rig). Ive noticed a difference ( although im not quite sure as to how much ) I know youve mentioned this in the guide (you recommend medium for lighting), i was just curious as to if this held true on your pc ( considering use high settings although you have the large amount of memory and speedy raid config) I am going to attempt to make some small 2-3min videos comparing the differences in lighting on meidum and high ( as screen shots dont always show the differences adequetly ) Just somthing thats been bugging me. Nothing worse than a setting that appears to do nothing. ![]() EDIT : The problem is not longer as severe but it is still there. Theres a small thread on the gamespot forums so it appears im not alone. I guess all i can do is hope for a patch in near future ( near as in not taking 3 months... ) http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/ba...103&pid=932358 and here http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gen...topic=31244248
