Okay , let me rephrase that, its not the custom resolutions but the custom WIDE screen resolutions that are the issue. Ive read this fact on a few difference forums as well as the wide screen gaming forum.

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com...Games_List_-_B

If you look under the bf2142 line it says : widescreen method gets zapped by punkbuster.

Im standing by this until i am told by evenbalance or told otherwise.

It's true. However the specific issue is that you can't activate true widescreen resolutions as this is seen as an unfair advantage by PunkBuster since it widens your FOV. You can still set a widescreen resolution using the normal +sxy +szy method, but this can result in the image being slightly skewed (i.e. slightly squished), or have the top and bottom cut off. More details here.

I'm not saying this is good or bad, but the situation as it stands is that it's banned by PB because of the increase in peripheral vision (extra few % around the left and right side of the screen), and I'm not sure if PB will alter it any time soon. I am mentioning this prominently under the Resolution setting in my upgraded BF2142 Tweak Guide, so hopefully other people who have widescreen monitors will see it before they buy the game.

ok this is a bad idea shutting down your firewall and antivirus
this will let every known virus trojan and internetworm onto your computer
I would advise you to restart your antivirus and then scan for viri because you most likely have by now at least 1/2 dozen and increasing rapidly

That statement is 100% opposite of the truth, especially if he's behind a hardware firewall. I shut down all my AV processes before gaming, and it has resulted in exactly 0 viruses or malware. If you stay away from questionable sites (porn, warez, etc) and stay away from spam emails you'll mostly be fine.

Thanks for clairifying that. Ive always played bf2 with the custom command line wide screen resolution and i dont mind that it doesnt change the aspect ratio. I can live with that. It still would be nice though if they included 16:9 and 16:9 support.

I've heard something disturbing for some but also vaguely warrented from the operators of my local internet/lan gaming center about BF2142 which involves the cafe account.

With BF2 you can have as many accounts tied to the one CD key as you wish, for example with my BF2 key there is my account and my brothers. Now if we go to a internet/lan gaming center we can both put our usernames and passwords into the copies of BF2 on the computers and play like we were back at my house on my pc.

BF2142 changes this. There is going to be a one to one relationship between accounts and cd keys. Now I can see the merits in this, as an anti-piracy measure. However this does mean a few problems for cyber cafe owners. No longer can players come into a cafe with their account and unlocks and play away. At the moment I'm slightly undecided about this...yes it can work against piracy, but they may also be limiting their player base......

At the moment I dunno if I will buy the game either now or ever...going to a internet/lan gaming center would make it easier to decide (kinda like playing a demo with all the features). Also with the university I'm studying at blocking almost every port cept the essentials it would make playing the game kinda hard if I did create my own account......

Just felt you should know.

As Evo has pointed out, please do not state something so firmly when it is not necessarily true. This is also part of the rules, so do not post something so alarming unless you have some facts to confirm it.

Firstly noone is saying to disable the Firewall.

Secondly, most games now require that you disable your Antivirus/Anti-malware software before installing and playing them, because otherwise you will have increased stuttering and crashes in many cases.

I have no antivirus/anti-trojan/anti-spyware programs running in the background for several years now and I've never picked up a virus. I run full manual scans regularly. This is all covered in detail in the PC Security Chapter of the TweakGuides Tweaking Companion.

If you don't wish to disable certain software to run a game that is your choice, but it is definitely not correct that disabling AV software will "let every known trojan etc. onto your machine", nor will you pickup half a dozen viruses/trojans just from doing this.

Sounds like EA is being lazy with their account database programing, yes its good that CD keys are bound to the account profile, but they need to make the account roaming, like steam, it was one key per account, but you can login to that account anywhere.
