Default BioShock

I'm surprised no one has talked bout this game.
Well if no one knows, it's a game being made from the creators who did System Shock 2. Supposedly it's running on a beefed up Tribes:Vengeance engine?
I have the game informer which has more information, I might scan them tomorrow depending if I do anything tomorrow.

I have been dying for this game to come out. System Shock 2 was awesome, and as you said its basically the sequel to it, but in a new universe since EA have the rights to the System Shock IP and don't intend on selling it or doing anything with it.

It's going to be awesome

EDIT: Btw, that engine is the same engine Irrational used for SWAT 4

It's kinda odd that on the Gamespot the first interview was posted Oct 8, 2004. And the next news is at Jan 9, 2006. And now the game is being planned for release in 2007. So maybe since they took forever to make it (without creating their own engine), it'll be good.

I don't think it has anything to relate with System Shock 2, or does it?

It doesn't have anything to do with it "officially" or storyline-wise, but it is the spiritual successor to System Shock 2. In effect, they wanted to do System Shock 3, but EA (being EA) have the IP and have no intention of doing anything with it, so Irrational decided to create their own IP for the game.

Know what i mean?

I read about it in Game Informer. It sounds really interesting. I didn't like the way it looked at first, and then when I read a little into the story I decided to follow this one closely.

Very interesting interview here. From the sounds of it, it really might be a true spiritual successor to SS2.

A sample.

Quote:
No, you just have to put the moral choice right in the player's nose. There have been lots of games where you make moral choices as follows:

Lord Doofus: So, Paladin, tell me this: Will you join the forces of light, or will you side with King Demonik's infernal army?

You: 1) Hook me up with that shiny plate mail! I'm your man, Doofus! Now can I have that scroll of Seraphic Summoning?

2) Screw you Doofus! I want me some of that hellfire? Now can you point me to the helpless widows and orphans?

What always bugs me about this is that it ignores the key component of what compels people to do nasty things: need. In BioShock, we put you in a terrible world that has exploited the weakest members of that world in horrible ways. Then we put you in a situation in which, in order to survive, it's pretty damn tempting to exploit the weak yourself. And there's no moral authority telling you what to do, what's right and wrong.

The people who exploited the Little Sisters in Rapture were motivated by ideology and their survival instincts. Any player who plays BioShock is going to be very tempted to exploit the Little Sisters, too, because now it's their life on the line. That's going to lead, I hope, to an understanding of how terrible things happen. It brings the player into the process of evil, and maybe makes them understand how terrible things happen, even when basically good people are involved.

This game looks incredible. It might be a bit too much on the "scary" side for me, but the gameplay looks awesome. System Shock 2 was incredible, and this game looks to continue it. By the way, I don't think it uses the same engine as SWAT4, as SWAT4 was using Unreal Engine 2.5. This looks like Unreal Engine 3, if anything.

Yep, its using Unreal Engine 3, or at least a modified version of it. I can't wait for it either, since SS2 was one of my favourite games of all time

I read a preview for this game a ways back, I think it was in Game Informer. It was the first I'd heard of it. It got a cover.

That preview really did a good job setting up the ambience of the game. Although the graphics are great, what really got me was a description of what you do etc. I think the preview started along the lines of the moral decision of whether or not to shoot a lil girl.

I'd recommend reading that preview if your interested in the game. Probably hard to find now though, heh.

I am *very* excited about this game.
