This may help those in this forum that have an audio crackling/popping problem or those that may encounter it in the future.
First off, this has been one of the toughest troubleshooting problems I ever have had with a computer. A good friend of mine purchased a brand new HP laptop a few months back (Realtek Sound, AMD X2, Vista X64) and from the moment it was first powered on, it had an issue with the sound. I went through drivers, disable-re-enabled the sound, tried the useless tech support to no avail. After a month of searching, I found that if the wireless was disabled, everything worked fine. This was far from an acceptable solution, but it allowed for trouble free DVD playing and such. It is also worthy to note that through my searching, this problem also seems to affect Dells with completely different sound chips. (and possibly others) However, it turns out that the culprit is having the "A" band enabled on the wireless adapter. Since this band is hardly used anymore (It is all G & N now) , diabling this has fixed the problem with no negative side effects. So if anyone you know is having this problem, navigate to your device manager, right click on the wireless adapter, go to the advanced tab, and disable the "A" band. (the exact procedure for this will vary depending on your adapter, but if you do a little digging you can find it) Anyways, I hope this will help those here, as this took me months of digging to find ![]() |
