Call me crazy, but who I think would've been good for this role is... (wait for it)
Bruce Willis. His voice alone could nail Max Payne to a tee. I realize he's no longer a young star, but something about those Die Hard films and Max Payne seem to fit like a glove.

I would've rather have seen a new Max Payne game, then (what looks to be) another half-baked game-movie adoption. However, I hope it's not. Okay, you can stop laughing now.

Already out here; came out yesterday.

Reviews mostly classify it as style over substance, but I'll probably see it before I pass final judgment. Although in terms of look, it does look fantastic!

The CEO of 3D Realms (Who published Max Payne / I think Remedy is the name of the studio that developed it and are now working on Alan Wake.) isn't that fond of the movie, altough from what I saw in the trailers it didn't match that well with the game but it could still be a interesting movie. (Only played the first game myself.)

I saw a review in a local newspaper, and surprisingly, the movie was given a good write up. They acknowledged that the movie was based on a video game, but said it was still a good Neo Noir movie and rated it 4 out of 5.

The Sydney Morning Herald had a preview that mostly commented on the leading actor's past, and review that rated the film as slightly below average (but there are worse examples than the Max Payne movie). The rating in this case was 2.5 of 5.

But I've noticed over the years that films the reviewers hate, the average movie watcher tends to like. There's a long running joke in some circles that the only TWO films reviewers and critics have ever liked are Battleship Potemkin (1925) and Aleksandr Nevskiy (1938) (Both Sergei M. Eisenstein classics from the former USSR). I find the comments on the Internet Movie Database to be a more reliable indicator of the average viewer's response.

I usually follow up closely on what "Rotten Tomatoes" writing abstracts have on a particular movie.

Max Payne does not deliver specifically high notes in terms of critics.

Still I found the movie much more interesting in terms of genre-movie (neo noir), though I wouldn't raise it to Sin City's level.

I'm interested in seeing it but I think it will be one of those not worth seeing in the theatre films. I'll wait for the blu-ray. It is unfortunate that most games made into movies have not amounted to much.

I saw the trailer when we went to see Quantum of Solace, I think I'll be waiting for this to get to rental before I see it, the trailer itself certainly didn't inspire me to go to the cinema to see it. Dark and Moody boxes seem ticked but there didn't seem to be much else to it. Normally a trailer either leaves me cold about a film, or makes me really anticipate seeing it, and Max Payne, surprisingly, fell into the former.
