Yes, the beta is now open and the nda is dropped too. So we are free to discuss the game if we would like to. As I said earlier, I think this game has some promise. There are plenty of bugs to be worked out thats sure. But you should really give this one a try. I like the graphics and the overall look and feel of the game. I usualy play the Street map and have great fun with the drones. The thing I like is that the developers really seem to be getting involved with the community, thats good for everyone. The forums are open as well now.

I played it a bit but never really got into it but some of the matches were quite hectic and the game has potential.

Played as a heavy infantry most of the time and it's really fun once you start unlocking extra equipment such as a repair kit (Essential for damaged vehicles or destroyed objectives) minigun and turret droid. (These rock for defence jobs.)

During one match a enemy heavy infantry set a gun turret near the computer that needs to be hacked among those oil fields and after I disposed of him I put my own minigun placement up and used both of those to succesfully hold the position until it was fully captured and reinforcements could arrive.
(Also got a rocket turret up but it wasn't that effective when the opposition brought in helicopters - had to withdraw and we eventually lost since you need to capture several points to advance the "frontline" forward and win the match.)

Could be a good game but the competition is tough with titles like the Battlefield serie, Quake Wars and TF 2.
(And all the other military themed games available.)

Visually it looks ok and the UE3 engine is heavily tweakable via INI files.
(But I think I mentioned that already, hehe. )

Just got a mail from fileplanet regarding a new update to the game.

Quote:
Dear Frontlines beta participant,

Beta version 0.3.1 has been released today; come and grab the patch here:

http://www.fileplanet.com/183794/180...-v-0.3.1-patch
*(You still need a key to play online.)*

Version 0.3.1 fixes some client issues, including various sound effects and optimization both client- and server-side. Here's the full list of tweaks:

Known Issues

• System Spec - AMD Single Core Processors causing issues/unstable and being investigated (No issues with Dual Core AMD Processors).
• Graphics Card - X1800 video cards must run with shadows turned off.
• Servers that use map rotation - map name may not change.

Fixed Issues

• Shader Model 2 support for ATI Cards X800 and higher has been implemented.
*(This should make a few people happy as UE3 does support SM2.0b.)*
• Various client crashes have been fixed.
• Ground and terrain sound effects have been fixed.
• Various sound issues have been fixed.
• Many installer issues have been fixed.
• Various optimizations both server-side and client-side have been added.

If you need to grab the full version of the beta client, get it here: http://www.fileplanet.com/179491/170...-of-War-Client
*(Once again, it shouldn't matter that I leave the download link in as one needs a working beta key to play online whereas lan and singleplayer modes are also disabled in this beta.)*

We hope you continue to enjoy the beta!

-The FilePlanet Team

THQ has officially cancelled the PS3 version of Frontlines, as well as pulled the plug on several other of their IPs.

Link - Official forums

For those who use Vista and are interested in this title there appears to be some issues with compatibility (Game crashes directly after the splash screen.) but it's seems that the developers managed to duplicate the issue and are working on a fix.
(There's all sorts of other issues reported on the official forums, guess it won't be long until a patch arrives.)

EDIT: 1.0.1 patch.

I've read that the AGEIA card has a potential to crash this game, probably bad support as those without one seems to run the game just fine and UE3 supports PhysX just fine.

From what I remember from other UE3 driven titles it should be possible to disable this via one of the INI files. (PhysX.Hardware=True or something like that, if it exists then just change any such values to False and it should switch to the software based PhysX support.)

EDIT: A demo was supposedly meant to have been released today but it was postponed while the developers worked on fixing bugs and such.

The postponed multiplayer demo has been released now, though it's still in beta form. It was leaked first, but then released officially by Kaos Studios. It's based on the 1.1.1 retail code so the 1.1.1 patch for the retail game should be here soon.
